OEM vs. 3rd Party

NorthSmartIT offers both OEM & 3rd party support across all of the equipment classes. 

Firmware & Microcode Updates

The list of Machines requiring acceptance of the License Agreement by means of written documentation is as follows: 

IBM System z®: 2097, 2098, 2458, 2817, 2818, and 2827
IBM Power Systems: 9109, 9117, 9119, 9179
IBM Storage Systems: 2421, 2422, 2423, 2424, 3592, 3956, 3957

Starting April 1, 2014, the License Acceptance Agreement must be executed and returned to IBM before IBM will ship any Machine requiring express written acceptance of the License Agreement's terms. 

These firmware and/or microcode updates must be purchased directly from IBM or an IBM BP and they are then installed remotely or by an IBM SSR.

Acceptance by Use Machines

For all other IBM Machines, the user conveys its acceptance of the license simply through the use of the Machine (IBM designates such IBM Machines as "Acceptance-By-Use Machines"). Example: xSeries, iSeries (formely AS400) 

Warranty Support

We can manage your firmware and/or microcode updates if your machines are under IBM warranty or an IBM support contract with a signed Letter of Agency authorizing us to acquire them on your behalf. 

Software Updates & Patches

End Users must have a SWMA in place in order to request and acquire software updates & patches. (Excluding Netezza, where SW & HW are bundled together.)
